Conservatorship Investigation Program

Individuals considered gravely disabled due to a mental disorder are referred by the treating hospital psychiatrist for a Lanterman-Petris-Short Act (LPS) Conservatorship evaluation. Referrals must originate from a physician while the individual is hospitalized.

The investigative team will assess the individual and determine whether he/she meets criteria due to a mental disability. Findings of the investigative team will determine whether the individual is placed on conservatorship. The investigative team also provides treatment planning and referrals and prepares all legal documents for court proceedings. This program oversees the Long Term Care Placement Team, and the Re-establishment Team and supports the court misdemeanants who are found to be incompetent to stand trial (SB-485 Program).
