Conservatorship Investigation Program

Individuals considered gravely disabled due to a mental disorder are referred by the treating hospital psychiatrist for a Lanterman-Petris-Short Act (LPS) Conservatorship evaluation. Referrals must originate from a physician while the individual is hospitalized.

The investigative team will assess the individual and determine whether he/she meets criteria due to a mental disability. Findings of the investigative team will determine whether the individual is placed on conservatorship. The investigative team also provides treatment planning and referrals and prepares all legal documents for court proceedings.
