Make your reservation for Museum day trip to Dos Palmas Oasis

Dos PalmasReservations are now being accepted for a one-day trip to Dos Palmas Oasis on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Led by San Bernardino County Museum Director Robert McKernan, the excursion will focus on birds that visit the oasis during spring migration. The day will end with a visit to the north end of the Salton Sea. Reservations are required.

The Dos Palmas Preserve is located near the northeast margin of the Salton Sea. The oasis encompasses a rich mosaic of desert habitats and important wetlands. Participants will search for migrant birds here and at the north end of the Salton Sea. All guests will meet at the County Museum in Redlands by 6:00 a.m. for an early departure and return to the museum about 5 p.m. The cost of $70 per person or $60 for a Museum Association member includes transportation, morning coffee, lunch, water, and light snacks. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes, dress in layers, and bring a hat, sunscreen, a bird field guide, and binoculars. This trip, organized by the San Bernardino County Museum Association, includes some walking on gravel and sand. Space is limited and pre-paid reservations are required. Reserve no later than March 21.

To make reservations, call Melissa Sanchez at (909) 798-8625 or visit the museum’s website to download a reservation form. The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org or call (909) 307-2669.
