Schools and libraries throughout San Bernardino County are holding Read Across America celebrations from March 1 to March 11.

Reading at grade level by third grade is one of the greatest predictors of children’s success in school, their likelihood of going to college, and their future earning potential. In San Bernardino County, we have a need to improve reading proficiency in our students. Sixty-two percent of San Bernardino County third graders do not meet State English language arts/literacy standards, scoring lower than their peers in neighboring Riverside, Los Angeles, and Orange counties in the 2017 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress test. Vision2Read is a campaign designed to help improve literacy throughout San Bernardino County by connecting people to literacy programs.

If you decide to participate at a Read Across America event, tell us what book you plan to read in the comments section below.

Also, don’t forget to use the hashtags #Vision2Read and #ReadAcrossAmerica if you post on social media.

Finally, if you are looking for your local library branch to find Read Across America events in San Bernardino County visit or on the Resources page.
