Vision2Read kicks off the Summer of Reading

CAO_Summer Reading Poster_SmallJoin Vision2Read’s campaign to improve literacy in San Bernardino County this summer by signing up for a library card in May and by encouraging youth to participate in their local library summer reading programs.

Free summer reading programs are available to children and teenagers at all city and County library branches. Kids are encouraged to read at least five books during summer vacation to keep their literacy skills fresh during the break.

The Vision2Read Summerof Reading campaign hopes to increase library card sign ups this summer and youth participation in summer reading programs by 15 percent. Research shows students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of summer. Research also shows more than half of the achievement gap between lower-and higher-income youth can be explained by an unequal access to summer learning opportunities.
