INCIDENT: PC 182 Conspiracy to Commit a Crime

                     PC 490.5 Theft of Retail Property

LOCATION: Barton Road / Mount Vernon Ave, Grand Terrace

SUSPECT(S): Jonathan Ortiz, 28-year-old resident of Riverside

                        Michael Ortiz, 27-year-old resident of Riverside

VICTIM(S): Walgreens

SUMMARY: On Sunday, May 10, 2018, Deputy Gapik from Central Station responded to a theft report at the Walgreens Drug Store on Barton Road and Mount Vernon Avenue in Grand Terrace. Two suspects, later identified as brothers Jonathan and Michael Ortiz entered the Walgreens and filled a shopping cart will $650 dollars worth of “5-Hour” energy drinks. They fled the store without paying and left in a 1996 Chevrolet truck parked in the parking lot.   Deputy Gapik was provided with the truck’s license plate number. 

Deputy Gapik and Riverside Police Officers (RPD) went to the registered owner’s address to attempt contact with the suspect. When arriving in the area, RPD officers observed the truck driving in the area and conducted a traffic stop.  The Ortiz brothers were detained without incident. The stolen items were gone from the truck. The brothers were wearing the same clothing as they wore during the theft.  Jonathan and Michael Ortiz were arrested without incident, transported and booked into the Central Detention Center.
