INCIDENT: Stolen Vehicle / Possession of Stolen Property

SUSPECT: James Antonio Aguilar, age 26, Highland resident

On Monday, February 18th, at approximately 4:00 pm, deputies assigned to the Highland Police Department were dispatched to the area of 9th Street near Sterling Avenue for an area check of a Honda Civic reported stolen to the San Bernardino Police Department on February 14, 2019.

Deputy M. Kassis began checking the area and located the vehicle on Baseline Street near San Francisco Street. A traffic stop was initiated on the stolen vehicle. The driver, James Aguilar, stopped the vehicle and was arrested without incident.

During the investigation, several hand tools and landscaping power tools were found inside the vehicle, as well as car parts – rims and tires from a late model Volkswagen vehicle. The landscaping tools and hand tools were identified as stolen property and returned to the owner on February 19, 2019. Investigators will attempt to identify the owner of the rims and tires.

Aguilar was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center. He faces charges of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Possession of Stolen Property. His bail is set at $50,000 and he is scheduled for arraignment on February 20th in Superior Court in San Bernardino.
