SUSPECTS: David Jensen, 50 year old resident of Arizona
Ulysess Grant Way, 50 year old resident of Arizona

VICTIMS: Two San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff’s assigned to the Morongo Basin Station

SUMMARY:
On Sunday, October 28, 2018, at approximately 3:13 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Morongo Basin Station, initiated a traffic stop in the area of Highway 62 and Godwin in Wonder Valley, on a 2000 Chevrolet truck with Arizona plates for a vehicle code violation. The vehicle was occupied by two males, who were later identified as the driver, Ulysess Grant Way, and the passenger, David Jensen. As deputies were exiting the patrol vehicle the driver drove his vehicle in reverse intentionally ramming into the front of the patrol vehicle. The driver sped away east bound on Highway 62 after ramming the patrol vehicle. A pursuit ensued; as the pursuit continued the passenger threw large objects from the vehicle in an attempt to disable the deputy’s patrol vehicle. The driver stopped the vehicle east of Gold Crown Road and began reversing the vehicle in another attempt to ram into the deputies patrol vehicle. The driver lost control of the vehicle and became stuck on the dirt embankment on the shoulder of the highway. The driver was immediately taken into custody. The passenger exited the vehicle and was taken into custody following a short foot pursuit.

Further investigation revealed Way and Jensen had stole over $10,000.00 in copper wiring from the Hi-Grade Materials business in the 7400 Block of Mojave Road in 29 Palms. The suspects drove from Arizona with the intent to commit this grand theft and were on their way back to Arizona when deputies attempted the traffic stop.

Way and Jensen were arrested for attempted murder. They were booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and are being held on a $1,000,000.00 bail.
