INCIDENT: Child Endangerment

LOCATION: Fairfax Ln./E. 9th St. San Bernardino

SUSPECT: Francisco Zepeda Jr, 34 years old, resident of Ontario

SUSPECT VEHICLE: 1998 Mazda Protégé Coupe

VICTIM: 5 year old male



On Monday, April 4, 2016 at about 10:35 p.m., Sheriff’s Central Deputies assigned to the county area of San Bernardino, conducted a traffic enforcement stop on the 1998 Mazda driven by the suspect, Francisco Zepeda. During contact with Zepeda, Deputy L. Sandoval noticed he was displaying objective symptoms of intoxication. Deputy Sandoval also noticed a child (identified by Zepeda as his 5 year old son) sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, unrestrained by a seatbelt or child seat. Both Zepeda and the child were removed from the vehicle without incident. The child was secured by an assisting deputy for safety.

Upon completion of Deputy Sandoval’s infield investigation, Zepeda was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Deputies transported the child back to Sheriff’s Central Station where they were met by representatives of Child and Family Services who then took custody of the child. Zepeda was transported and booked at Central Detention Center on the charges of Felony Child Endangerment and Misdemeanor Driving Under the Influence.
