INCIDENT: PC 215 Carjacking

LOCATION: 14700 Block of Valley Boulevard, Fontana

SUSPECT(S): Rudy Perez, 32-years old, resident of Fontana

VICTIM(S): Confidential

On November 18, 2016, at 11:11 pm., the victim was seated in his BMW near the intersection of Valley Boulevard and Hemlock Avenue, when three Hispanic males in a U-Haul truck pulled up and blocked his vehicle. A passenger exited the U-Haul and approached the victim. The suspect brandished a black semi-automatic handgun and instructed the victim to exit the vehicle. The victim feared for his life and complied with the suspect. The suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and fled north on Hemlock Avenue, as the U-Haul followed.

Sheriff’s personnel from the Fontana Sheriff’s Station observed a similar vehicle traveling in an opposing direction at a high rate of speed and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. The suspect fled in an erratic manner and disabled the vehicle after colliding into a curbline in Rialto. The suspect fled from the vehicle and was detained a short distance away by Rialto Police Department. The suspect was positively identified by the victim and nearby witnesses.

Sheriff’s personnel conducted a thorough search of the area and located the victim’s backpack in a trash can. The backpack contained a firearm that was reported stolen from Maricopa County, Arizona and was the weapon used during the carjacking. Personnel were unable to locate the associated U-Haul truck.

Perez, who is a Career Criminal, was booked into West Valley Detention Center for PC 215 Carjacking, PC 29800 Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and PC 186.22 Participating in a Criminal Street Gang.
