INCIDENT: RIVERSIDE MAN ARRESTED FOR FELONY EVADING
LOCATION: MAIN ST/COTTONWOOD AVE, HESPERIA
SUSPECT: DANIEL PEREYRA, AGE 26 OF RIVERSIDE
On Friday, February 12, 2016 at approximately 5:27 a.m., Deputies of the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of Main St. and Cottonwood Ave. The vehicle was speeding and passing vehicles in an unsafe manner. The driver the 2014 Toyota RAV failed to yield and sped away.
Deputies pursued the vehicle down Main St., where the driver failed to stop for traffic signals, putting himself and others in danger, and then proceeded onto the northbound I15 freeway. The pursuit continued on the freeway reaching speeds over 100 mph.
Deputies learned the driver, Daniel Pereyra was reported missing out of Riverside on February 10th and believed to be armed with a hand gun. The pursuit continued on the freeway for 54 miles with the suspect weaving in and out of lanes at a high rate of speed, endangering other drivers. Pereyra exited the freeway at Ghost Town Road and continued down Yermo Rd., till he turned off onto a dead end road and stopped the vehicle at the end. Suspect Pereyra complied with deputies’ commands and was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies located a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic in the passenger seat.
Barstow Sheriff’s Station and Barstow Police Department were in place to deploy spike strips when the pursuit headed their way. Cooperation between other stations and departments can be a valuable tool when events like these take place.
Suspect Daniel Pereyra was arrested and will be booked at High Desert Detention Center on charges of VC2800.2- Felony evading.
