INCIDENT: Possession of a stolen vehicle, Commercial Burglary, Identity Theft and Possession of a controlled substance.
LOCATION: Highland Avenue / Victoria Ave.
SUSPECT: Thoma Schaffer, 32 years old, resident of San Bernardino
Summary
On Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at about 8:53, deputies on proactive patrol located an occupied stolen vehicle in the area of Highland and Victoria Avenue.Thomas Schaffer, a resident of San Bernardino was the only occupant inside the vehicle.Schaffer was found to be on supervised probation for burglary in the County of San Bernardino.
In the vehicle, Deputies recovered stolen property taken the night prior during a commercial burglary in the City of Rialto.Schaffer was found to be in possession of several victims’ personal information and suspected methamphetamine.
Schaffer was booked at the Central Detention Center for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, commercial burglary, possession of stolen property, identity theft, possession of a controlled substance and violation of probation.Schaffer is being held without bail.
As part of Governor Jerry Brown’s Realignment plan, or Assembly Bill 109, to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring the state to lower its prison population by 30,000; offenders with non-violent, non-sexual convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jails and be placed on local supervision through county probation.
