INCIDENT: Search Warrants – Outdoor Marijuana Cultivations

LOCATION: Unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County – Yucca Valley & Landers

SUSPECT(S): *See below for additional information*

Summary

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department – Marijuana Enforcement Team and deputies from the Morongo Basin Station conducted investigations resulting in the service of six search warrants at residential properties in the unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County, to include the communities of Landers and Yucca Valley. The locations had outdoor marijuana cultivations taking place on the properties. The investigations revealed all of the marijuana cultivation operations were illegal and not in compliance with California’s medical marijuana law and/or San Bernardino County’s ordinance prohibiting Commercial Cannabis Activity.

The investigations resulted in total seizures of over 1,400 marijuana plants, 19 pounds of processed marijuana, and charges brought against eight suspects. Three suspects will be charged with cultivating marijuana as a felony. Evidence found at the individual locations suggests the suspects had no intention of abiding by California’s medical marijuana law or the County’s ordinance.

The County of San Bernardino has an ordinance prohibiting Commercial Cannabis Activity which includes unsecure outdoor marijuana cultivations. San Bernardino County Code Enforcement personnel will assist in the notifications to the owners of the properties to make them aware of the violations occurring on them. The Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division will continue to enforce California’s medical marijuana law as well as the San Bernardino County ordinance regarding marijuana cultivation and distribution. Persons found to be violating the state marijuana law and county ordinance are subject to fines, prosecution, and seizure of property. Property owners who are aware of their tenants growing marijuana on their rental properties in violation of state law and local ordinances may also be subject to civil or criminal sanctions.
