INCIDENT: Search Warrant – Cultivation of Marijuana

LOCATION: #1 – 8068 Sunnyside Avenue, San Bernardino

SUSPECT: Camilo Farias-Rodrigues, age 33, Transient from Central California

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) and deputies from the Sheriff’s Central Station served a search warrant at the Sunnyside Ave. location. The illegal marijuana grow operation was discovered by deputies from the Central Station who responded to other calls for service in the area. The deputies learned of the illegal marijuana cultivation and notified the Gangs/Narcotics Division. The suspect was found in the rear yard tending to the marijuana plants. He was taken into custody without resistance.
Deputies secured the scene and began their investigation. It was later determined that Frias-Rodrigues was hired to care for the marijuana plants and was staying on the property. He was being paid to care for the plants by an unknown individual. Investigators seized over 2,300 marijuana plants in various stages of growth from the location.
Additionally, the evidence gathered during the investigation suggests that the suspect was not in compliance with California medical marijuana laws and local ordinances. The County of San Bernardino has an ordinance prohibiting marijuana dispensaries, mobile marijuana dispensaries, delivery services, and outdoor cultivation of marijuana within the unincorporated areas of the county.
At the conclusion of the criminal investigation, the suspect will be charged with the Cultivation of Marijuana. The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office will review the case and decide on what, if any, criminal charges will be filed against the suspect. The property owner may also face civil and/or criminal charges at a later date.
Farias-Rodrigues was booked into the Central Detention Center for the aforementioned charge and given a bail of $25,000. He will appear in court within the next few days to be arraigned on this criminal charge.
