Summary

On April 21, 2016 at approximately 11:53 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to an unknown problem near the intersection of Twentynine Palms Hwy and North Star Road in Morongo Valley. Deputies located a 1998 Toyota RAV4, driven by James Santana, had collided into the side of a 2008 Ford F250 truck, driven by Paul Burright with passenger Elizabeth Wright. Through investigation Deputy T. Hodgins learned that there had been an ongoing problem between Santana and his ex-girlfriend, Wright; and Santana found Wright in the Ford truck with Burright. Santana deliberately drove his Toyota into the side of the Ford ramming it and then proceeded to pull Burright out of the Ford and got into a physical altercation with him. Santana was found to be out on bail for another assault with a deadly weapons charge which is currently pending with the District Attorney’s Office.

Santana was arrested for Penal Code 245(a)(4) – Assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily injury, and Penal Code 12022.1(b) – Commit another crime while out on bail. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Burright and Wright sustained minor cuts and abrasions during the incident.
