INCIDENT: Felony Evading/ Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

LOCATION: Golden Avenue/ Holly Vista Drive, San Bernardino

SUSPECT: Anthony Martinez, age 29 of San Bernardino

On Monday, November 7, 2016, at approximately 12:10 am, Deputy Kostiuk from the Central Sheriff’s Station was conducting routine patrol in San Bernardino. Kostiuk observed a vehicle with a mechanical malfunction. Kostiuk attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle; the driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. A records check on the vehicle plate identified the vehicle as being stolen on November 6th from the City of Fontana. The driver, later identified as Anthony Martinez, continued to fail to yield and made several vehicle code violations, showing disregard for public safety. Martinez ran a red light at the intersection of Baseline Street and E Street, colliding with a civilian vehicle. The civilian vehicle subsequently struck a building. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. After the collision, Martinez fled on foot towards nearby businesses. Deputies pursued the suspect on foot as he jumped onto a roof in an attempt to flee. The driver was taken into custody by Deputy Gile. Martinez has an extensive arrest history and is a convicted felon. Martinez is also a documented gang member. Martinez was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center.
