SUSPECT(S): Twenty-one DUI Probationers
Summary
On July 13, 2016, the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department in partnership with the San Bernardino County Probation Department, caught and cited twenty-one DUI probationers for driving on a suspended license during a DUI (driving under the influence) probation compliance check.
Probationers were required to attend a mandatory visit with their probation officers. After the probationers checked in, deputies surveilled the probationers as they returned to their vehicles. Probationers who drove away with suspended licenses were stopped and their vehicles impounded for 30 days per state law.
Statistics show a large number of fatal collisions involve drivers on DUI probation and/or driving on a suspended licenses. Utilizing an Office of Traffic Safety grant awarded to the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department, the Traffic Division is focusing on ways to promote safety on our roadways and reduce traffic collisions in the city of Rancho Cucamonga.
It should be noted, many probationers who checked in, chose not to drive in violation of the law and came by public transportation and/or were driven to the location by licensed drivers.
