INCIDENT:         iPhone application helps deputies locate and arrest grand theft auto suspect

LOCATION:       Monet Avenue and Foothill Boulevard

SUSPECT(S):    Jassman Marks 28-year-old male from Fontana

Summary

On November 4, 2016, at approximately 9:20 pm, deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department were dispatched to a stolen vehicle report at the Chevron Gas Station near the intersection of Monet Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. Deputies determined the victim parked her vehicle at the gas station and made a quick purchase inside the store. The victim’s vehicle was running and unlocked when she went into the store. When the victim exited the store, she noticed her vehicle was gone. A store employee witnessed a male suspect enter the vehicle and drive away. The victim told deputies her iPhone was inside her vehicle.

Utilizing the iPhone application, Find My iPhone, deputies were able to locate the location of the iPhone and vehicle. The iPhone’s location showed near the area of Day Creek Boulevard and Highland Avenue. While deputies searched that area, an updated location showed the iPhone ‘s location was 12340 Highland Avenue. Deputies immediately responded to that location and found the vehicle and unsuspecting suspect, Jassman Marks. Marks was taken into custody without incident. Marks was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for grand theft auto, and his bail was set at $50,000.
