INCIDENT: PC 273ab (b) – Child Endangerment, causing Great Bodily Injury
LOCATION:9400 Block of Glenaire Ct; City of Rancho Cucamonga
SUSPECT: Marisela Manuel, 20, Rancho Cucamonga
Summary
On July 17, 2016, Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 9400 Block of Glenaire Ct. in the City of Rancho Cucamonga, reference a 3-month old baby not breathing. Medical personnel responded and transported the baby to San Antonio Community Hospital for treatment. While at the hospital, doctors found that the 3-month old victim had sustained a severe brain injury as a result of traumatic injury to his head. The victim was transported to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, where he was seen by a Forensic Pediatrician. The pediatrician found that the victim had severe bleeding and swelling in his brain, consistent with on-going physical abuse. The victim is currently in critical condition and was admitted into the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital.
Social workers from Children and Family Services and Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department – Crimes Against Children and Homicide detail were contacted and conducted their investigation. The victim was placed into protective custody with Children and Family Services.
During the investigation, it was determined that the mothers’ initial account of how the victim received his injuries, was not consistent with the injuries sustained.
On July 18, 2016, detectives interviewed the victim’s mother, Marisela Manuel, about the incident. At the conclusion of the interview, Manuel was placed under arrest for Child Endangerment, causing great bodily injury. Manuel was booked into the Central Detention Center, where she is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. Manuel is scheduled for arraignment at the Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court on Wednesday, July 20, 2016.
