INCIDENT: CAR JACKING/ FALSE IMPRISONMENT/ PRCS VIOLATION

SUSPECT: Robert Groombridge, 36, of Apple Valley

Summary

On Sunday, October 16, 2016, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the victim, a 54-year-old female adult, went to a residence in the 37000 block of Rabbit Springs Road in Lucerne to look at a vehicle transmission to purchase.

While at the residence, a male adult not known to the victim, demanded she take him to an unknown location against her will. When the victim attempted to leave, the male, identified as Robert Groombridge, pulled her hair and punched her several times preventing her from leaving or calling 911. The victim was able to get into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and Groombridge jumped into the vehicle stomping on the gas and at the same time assaulting the victim. Groombridge then took a pipe and broke the passenger mirror and window on the vehicle. When the victim then attempted to flee again the suspect hit her in the lower back with the pipe. The victim was able to flee on foot. The suspect then tried to steal the vehicle and got it stuck.

When deputies arrived they located Groombridge still inside the vehicle. Groombridge was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center. He is currently being held without bail on a PRCS hold.
