Incident: Firearm located on Yucaipa High School campus

Summary
A drug detection canine contracted by the Yucaipa-Calimesa Unified School District alerted to the possible presence of narcotics in a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Yucaipa High School. School security contacted a 17-year-old student who was found sleeping inside the vehicle. A firearm, ammunition, and marijuana residue were found during a search of the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Department was contacted and conducted the investigation, a criminal report for PC626.9 Possessing a firearm in a school zone will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office. A subsequent search of the student’s residence was conducted and no evidence was found indicating the school or other students were targeted or threatened.
