INCIDENT: Grand Theft Auto/ Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Possession of Stolen Property

LOCATION: 33000 block of Yucaipa Blvd., Yucaipa

SUSPECT: Manuel Ramirez, 37 years old, resident of San Bernardino

On Wednesday, April 20, 2016, shortly after 7:00 a.m., Deputy Samuelsen initiated a traffic stop on a Toyota Pickup truck. The driver, later identified as Manuel Ramirez from San Bernardino, tried braking his vehicle hard several times in an attempt to make the motorcycle officer collide into the back of his vehicle. Ramirez turned into the Denny’s restaurant parking lot at 33540 Yucaipa Boulevard and jumped out of the moving vehicle, fleeing on foot. Unknown to Deputy Samuelsen at the time, the pickup was reported stolen from the Redlands area. The driverless pickup truck collided into a concrete bench, newspaper racks and almost hit a pedestrian.

Yucaipa Police units and Sheriff’s Aviation responded and searched the area. After an hour of searching, deputies located Ramirez hiding underneath a bush in the area of Wallace Way and 10th Street. Ramirez was booked at West Valley Detention Center for a no bail warrant for violation of his PRCS probation terms and additional charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of Stolen Property and Grand Theft Auto.
