On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 12:57 a.m., deputies responded to a disturbance on the 7800 block of Quail Springs Road in Joshua Tree over the custody of a 2 year old child. Upon deputies arrival they learned that Laura Hendrickson came to her parent’s house to visit her 2 year old child, who lives with her parents. The visit turned physical towards her 64 year old father and 59 year old mother when Hendrickson began to act irrational and began screaming at her parents. Her father took possession of the 2 year old, holding the child in his arms as Hendrickson grabbed the child and was attempting to pull the child away from him. Hendrickson then grabbed a knife and held it upward as to strike her father and stated she would stab him, as he was still holding the child. When her father would not turn the child over to her, Hendrickson grabbed her father’s arm and bit his arm, causing a severe bite wound. Her 59 year old mother attempted to help her husband when Hendrickson grabbed her mother’s hand and bit her hand leaving a wound. Hendrickson then grabbed her 2 year old child and drove away with the child, but she was quickly stopped by deputies and arrested.
Hendrickson was booked for child endangerment and assault with a deadly weapon and transported to the Morongo Basin Jail. Bail was set at $100,000.
The 2 year old child was not injured during the incident.
