Summary

On December 30, 2015, at approximately 9:40 a.m., deputies and detectives from the Morongo Basin Station responded to a robbery call at the Best Western Hotel in Yucca Valley. Dispatch was able to update responding units with a suspect description and direction of travel on a mountain bike. At about 10:41 hours, the suspect, James Spencer, was located near Bannock Trail and Pueblo Trail.

  

Through investigation, Spencer was positively identified as the strong arm robbery suspect. Spencer entered the Best Western Hotel lobby and went over to the breakfast area and pushed the breakfast bar attendant away from the table and stole the attendant’s tip jar containing an undisclosed amount of money. Spencer then fled the hotel on his bike. No weapon was used and the attendant was not injured, but feared for her safety during the incident. Spencer was arrested for Penal Code 211 – Strong Arm Robbery and a probation violation. Spencer was booked into the Morongo Basin jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
