INCIDENT: VC20001 (A) / Felony Hit and Run

LOCATION: Foothill Blvd. / Hellman Ave.

SUSPECT: Miguel Mendoza, 36-years-old from Gardena

VICTIM: Alanna Abbott, 28-years-old from Pomona

SUMMARY:
****2nd UPDATE****
On Thursday, March 28, 2019, deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Traffic Division and Multi-Enforcement Team learned the whereabouts of Miguel Mendoza. An arrest warrant was obtained, and Mendoza was arrested by deputies at his residence in the city of Hawthorne. Mendoza had injuries consistent with being involved in a traffic collision and was taken to a local hospital for a pre-booking medical check. Mendoza was booked at the West Valley Detention Center where he remains in custody. His bail is set at $50,000. The victim’s medical status remains critical.

We are releasing a photo of the suspect, Miguel Mendoza, in hopes to learn his whereabouts. The victim remains hospitalized and in critical condition.

On the above date and time, Mendoza was observed driving eastbound on Foothill Bl. from the City of Upland, entering the City of Rancho Cucamonga. Witnesses observed Mendoza weaving in and out of traffic and running red lights repeatedly. As Mendoza approached Hellman Av., he ran the red light, striking Abbott who was making a left turn on a green arrow onto southbound Hellman Av. After the vehicles came to rest, Mendoza got out of his vehicle and ran from the scene, failing to check on Abbott’s condition or injuries. Mendoza was positively identified as the driver of the vehilce, however he has not yet been located. Abbott was transported to the hospital, where she is in critical, but stable condition.
