INCIDENT: Illegally removing plant material from a public use area

LOCATION: Etiwanda Preserve

SUSPECT: Constantino Bahena, 44-year-old from Fontana
Patricia Gaytan, 39-year-old from Fontana
Augustina Beltran-Bahena, 40-year-old from Montclair
Antonio Camarillo, 36-year-old from Montclair


On Sunday, June 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., deputies responded to a report of several people harvesting Sage illegally within the public use area of the Etiwanda Preserve. When deputies arrived, two of the four suspects fled on foot and were apprehended. It was discovered four suspects harvested more than 400 pounds of Sage from the preserve. The Sage was placed into five large bags in preparation to be hiked out of the preserve and to an awaiting vehicle. All four suspects were arrested for illegally removing plant material from a public use area.

Rancho Cucamonga police would like to remind you removal of plant material from a public use area without a valid permit is a crime. The Sage in the area of the Etiwanda Preserve is protected by the California Endangered Species Act. Picking the Sage around the preserve jeopardizes the continued existence of this species and affects the habitat growth of our protected areas. If you observe anyone suspicious or who you may believe to by harvesting any plant from a public use area such as the Etiwanda Preserve to notify the Rancho Cucamonga Police.
