On February 4, 2019, deputies from the Victorville Police Department were dispatched to the 12600 block of Dulce Court for a reported stabbing. The suspect used a knife to threaten his grandmother, two aunts, and uncle, inside the home they all shared. One of the aunts was able to escape and ran to a neighbor’s home for help.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the aunt had suffered multiple injuries, including cuts to her face and hand, while attempting to escape. She was transported to a local hospital to be treated. The suspect was inside the home with the other family members and refused to come out and refused to release the hostages, two of which were disabled. With assistance from Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, entry was made into the house and the suspect was taken into custody. The other victims were unharmed.
The suspect, identified as 47-year old Dexter Barker, was transported to a nearby hospital for complaint of pain to his foot. He was subsequently booked at West Valley Detention Center for attempted murder. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for review and consideration of additional charges.
