INCIDENT: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol-Causing Bodily Injury

LOCATION: Mariposa Road and Palmdale Road, Victorville

SUSPECTS: Ernest Moran, 32-year old Adelanto resident

VICTIM(S): Confidential

SUMMARY: On July 19, 2019, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Palmdale Road and Mariposa Road.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the suspect was driving a utility truck, belonging to his employer, traveling northbound on Mariposa. When he reached the intersection with Palmdale Road he failed to stop for a red light and collided with another vehicle, causing it to flip. The victim vehicle was occupied by two adults and two children. The two adults were transported to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries, the children did not require medical attention at the scene.

The suspect, later identified as Ernest Moran, fled the scene. He was quickly spotted by a security guard near the Green Tree Golf Course. The security guard detained Moran until deputies arrived at the location. He was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest. He was booked at High Desert Detention Center for driving under the influence of alcohol, causing bodily injury. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of further charges.

Work crews with the City of Victorville responded to repair and or replace signs and lights damaged by the suspect prior to and during the collision.
