On July 30, 2018 at 3:02 p.m., when for reasons unknown, Joshua Bartram became upset with William Hernandez as the two drove separate vehicles in the area of Highway 38 and Bryant.   Bartram began chasing Hernandez and Hernandez pulled into the Yucaipa Regional Park with Bartram following.  Bartram exited his vehicle with a knife, stabbed Hernandez’s car door (causing damage) and threatened to kill Hernandez.

Bartram punched the back of the victim’s vehicle, then returned to his car and left southbound on Oak Glen Road.  A deputy patrolling in the area observed Bartram leaving the park at a high rate of speed and attempted a traffic stop.  Bartram failed to yield to the deputy and accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 mph.  He continued through the intersection of Yucaipa Blvd. and Oak Glen Rd., driving on the wrong side of the center median, and collided with a vehicle on Yucaipa Blvd.  Bartram’s vehicle then struck and drove over a the center median, flattening three of his tires.  The deputy who initially pursued Bartram stopped to render aid at the accident scene.

Bartram continued driving south on Oak Glen Rd., and a deputy responding to the initial call located Bartram near Oak Glen Road south of Yucapa Blvd.  Bartram turned into a neighborhood and came to rest when his vehicle struck a curb near Camelot and 10th.  Although he was initally agitated and non-compliant with deputies, deputies were able to deescalate the situation and take Bartram into custody without injury and without use of force.  Bartram was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
