INCIDENT: Identity Theft/ Vehicle Theft

LOCATION: 7500 block of Apache Trail, Yucca Valley

SUSPECT: Derek Burnham, 30-year-old resident of Yucca Valley

VICTIMS: Multiple

SUMMARY: On Thursday, January 17, 2019, the Detective Bureau from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Morongo Basin Station, received information from the Wellesley Police Department (Massachusetts), regarding identity theft. Wellesley detectives believed Derek P. Burnham, was using his real name and Derek I. Burnham’s (Wellesley resident) social security number to open multiple credit card and bank accounts. Through investigation it was determined Burnham used another victim’s information to purchase a new truck.

On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, detectives served a search warrant in the 7500 block of Apache Trail, in the town of Yucca Valley. Detectives located extensive evidence of identity theft, controlled substances, and the truck purchased by fraudulent information. The truck was recovered and returned to the dealership.

Burnham was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant, for a previous identity theft, additional charges of identity theft, vehicle theft, and possession of a controlled substance. Burnham was booked into West Valley Detention Center.
