Motivational interviewing (MI) is a form of collaborative conversation designed to help strengthen a person’s own motivation and commitment to change. The aims of motivational interviewing are to guide the person toward resolution of ambivalence about the target behavior change, thus increasing motivation for behavior change and strengthening the commitment to that change. The training will be a live webinar. Continuing Education credits will be available through the vendor, PESI, Inc.
After completing this training, participants will be able to:
-Identify the relational and technical components the make MI work
-Explain how the 4-processes and OARS skills of MI help change happen
-Explore ways to elicit and respond to effectively to change talk
-Discuss specific ways to help your clients resolve ambivalence and talk themselves into change
-Develop strategies for working effectively with clients who seem to resist change
-Summarize how to effectively use MI with specific disorders
